Wires and cables are made through three processes: drawing, twisting and coating. The more complex the type and specification, the higher the repeatability.
In metal pressure machining, the technical machining method is called metal drawing, in which the metal is forced through the die (pressure wheel) under the action of external forces, the cross-sectional area of the metal is compressed, and the required cross-sectional area shape and size are obtained.
Drawing process: single wire drawing and stranded wire drawing.
In order to improve the flexibility and integrating of the wire and cable, twisting more than 2 single wires together according to specified direction is called stranding.
Stranding process: conductor stranding, cabling, weaving, armoring and winding.
According to the different performance requirements of the wire and cable, different materials shall be coated on the conductor by use of special equipment. Covering process includes:
A. Extrusion: rubber, plastic, lead, aluminum and other materials.
B. Longitudinal covering: rubber, corrugated aluminum tape and other material.
C. Wrapping: paper tape, mica tape, alkali-free glass fiber tape, non-woven cloth, plastic tape, etc., linear cotton yarn, silk and other fiber materials.
D. Dip coating: insulating paint, asphalt, etc
